HOW IT WORKS
Most aircraft today are equipped with so called ADS-B transponders that transmit positional data. Flight radar 24 has a rapidly growing network of several thousand ground stations around the world to receive this data that then shows up as aircraft moving on a map in the app. In an expanding number of regions Flightradar24, with the help of multilateration, is able to calculate the positions of aircraft that don’t have ADS-B transponders.

Traditional radar data is also used in the app thanks to a direct feed from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This data provides near real-time coverage of all US and Canadian airspace.

***IMPORTANT NOTICE - COVERAGE***
Flightradar24 provides unrivaled positional aircraft data coverage around the world but there are areas where we don’t have coverage. If you are only interested in tracking air traffic in a specific region, we suggest that you check our website BEFORE purchasing the app.

Overview of coverage as of April 2015:
* Europe: close to 100%
* North America: 100% of US and Canada via slightly delayed radar data. Real-time coverage for most of US, Canada and Mexico for ADS-B equipped aircraft
* South America: Substantial coverage in most countries including Brazil, Argentina and Chile
* Asia: Substantial coverage in most major Asian countries including Japan, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Thailand, UAE, Malaysia, Taiwan and many other countries. Rapidly expanding coverage in China
* Oceania: Nearly complete coverage in Australia and New Zealand
* Africa: Substantial coverage in South Africa. Limited but growing coverage in the rest of the region

Coverage is subject to change at any time.

Pros and cons of Flightradar24 - Flight Tracker app for iPhone and iPad

Flightradar24 - Flight Tracker app good for

Many thanks for this very interesting apps. Its working very well I see all commercials airplanes over my home and all over the world. Its really the apps to have if you are found of plane ! They have to work to make it easier to find a plane Ex : just put departure name of airline company arrival and date Frédérick and Jonathan
It is awsome how this app works. You have real time infos for every flight worldwide, concerning altitude, speed, route, destination, airplane type, ....you even have realtime 3D views from the cockpit!
The best application especially when youre traveling a lot! Im crazy about this amazing software. You can follow all flight, know if flight are delayed and so on.....
I cant find any negative comment to say for this application.
Kudos! Not much to add, except, what about improving the alerts ?
Very nice application, but for us limo drivers, its impossible to get advance flight status notifications. Not very practical ! Also, Flightradar often has trouble tracking flights before take-off and after touchdown.

Some bad moments

The App is really good, but resources such as "arrivals and departures" and "alerts" are in-app purchases and just make the price of the app almost triple. There are other paid apps that will give these resources without paying extra... So, bear that in mind before you purchase it.
This app is terrible...I was tracking a flight when it suddenly disappeared! Couldnt find it anywhere...went on other apps and found the flight ...dont waste your money! I want a refund!!
Not sure what to think of this app. Tracking a flight that shows it left 1 1/2 hours ago. But its not due to leave for another 2 hours. Sitting here looking at the plane at our gate but you app shows it left.
Whenever I try to check a flight on the map, I couldnt find it; there is just a scheduled program. If you open the map and click any flight over there, its peefect you got many information, but what can I do, if I cant see what I am checking. So it is worthless Thats why I cant recommand.
After latest iOS update I cant spot plane using location services anymore. I dont know if it is Apple or the application causing this. Embarressing though..!
